Koprivshtitsa (from the Bulgarian word ‘kopriva’, meaning "nettle"; old name Koprishnitsa) is a town in Western Bulgaria, in the district of Sofia, near the towns of Pirdop, Klisura, Strelcha and Panagyurishte. The town has a population of 2 546 people.

Koprivshtitsa is located in a mountainous region. The town is situated in a picturesque valley along the Topolnitsa River, in the central part of the Sredna Gora Mountain. The town stays 16 km away from the sub-Balkan road, 110 km away from Sofia, 24 km away from the towns of Pirdop and Strelcha, and 90 km away from the city of Plovdiv.

Situated at 1 030 m above the sea level, the town of Koprivshtitsa has a typically highland climate. It is also known as one of the sunniest towns in Bulgaria with no fogs throughout the year. The winter is cold, but sunny with a thick snow cover and an average temperature of -5.0°С in the coldest month of the year – January. Because of the town’s high altitude and the local, typical of the summer season northern air current, coming down the Topolnitsa River Valley from the high slopes of the Balkan, the summer in Koprivshtitsa is fresh and cool, with an average temperature of 26°С in August – the hottest month of the year.
